About SEA:
The Webb Institute Summer Engineering Academy (SEA) is a two-week program designed to introduce middle and high school students to the field of engineering through classroom learning, challenging team-oriented hands-on activities, and more. Parents are invited to view the final boat race that will take place the last Friday of the program!
2024 Summer Engineering Academy Details
Grade Level: Entering 8th – 12th Grade
Program Objective:
Introduce middle and high school students to the field of engineering and design through classroom learning and challenging team-oriented hands-on laboratory activities and projects.
Program Activities:
Classroom lectures, hands-on laboratory activities, hands-on design-build-test experiences, and a local field trip to an engineering-related site. Program participants must be able to function in laboratory environments and safely use hand and power tools under supervision.
Dates:
- Session 1: July 8-July 19th
- Session 2: July 22nd- August 2nd
Time:
SEA runs from 9 am until 4:00 pm daily. Early drop off is available starting at 8:30 am and late pick up ends at 4:30 pm for no extra cost.
Cost:
The cost of the SEA program is $1,700 with a deposit of $500 once accepted to the program.
Registration:
Registration will open on Wednesday, January 31st at 3:00 PM EST. At that time, this section will have a link to the SEA application portal. Note that a transcript (unofficial transcripts are accepted) is required to submit an application.
Additional Information:
Please note that this is a daily program and on-campus housing is not available for those interested from outside of the New York area.

Program Refunds:
As a result of the seasonal nature of the program, the commitment to staff, and the limited space for participants, no refund shall be provided for changes, withdrawals, or dismissal for cause. A 5-day deductible tuition refund is in effect for absence due to illness. Refunds will be made only after 5 consecutive days of absence. This must be verified in writing by a physician. No refunds will be made for any non-consecutive absences.
Transportation:
Transportation is not provided by the program.
Safety and Security:
Program participants will be under the supervision of Program Instructors at all times. Program staff are trained in first aid and the use of AEDs. In the event of emergencies the services of the Glen Cove Police, Fire, and EMS will be used.
Participant Conduct:
For the general welfare of all of the program participants and staff, Webb Institute reserves the unrestricted right to dismiss any participant whose conduct or influence, in the opinion of the director, is detrimental to the program or the health and safety of any of the program participants or staff.
